Symptoms

After upgrading from E85 Endpoint Security VPN client to E85.xx Endpoint Security VPN client, the user cannot connect and receives this error: "Failed to load virtual network adapter".
The issue does not occur if the user does a clean installation of the new client without an upgrade.
The issue occurs only when E85.00 is the initial upgrade version.

Cause

Upgrading from E85.00 to E85.10, E85.20, or E85.30 breaks the Virtual Network Adapter driver because of an issue in the installer of the standalone Remote Access VPN client.

The issue applies only when E85.00 is the initial upgrade version. If you upgrade from E84.xx or from E85.10 and above, the upgrade works correctly.
